The new Renessans Cinema House hosted a round table of the CIS countries' Board of Directors of Cinematographers "Prospects for development of cinematography in the CIS countries" as part of the XV Tashkent Film Festival.
The summit was attended by members of the "International Creative Association of Film Studios of the CIS countries and Georgia", including the head of the Agency of Cinematography of Uzbekistan Firdavs Abdukhalikov, president of "Kazakhfilm" Azamat Satybaldy, director of the Department of Cinematography under the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan Akzhol Bekbolotov, Deputy Director of "Turkmenfilm" Sakhysalyk Bayramov, Director of the state institution "Tochikfilm" Makhmadsaid Shokhiyon, Director of "LenDok" studio Alexey Telnov, famous Belarusian producer and cinematographer Vladimir Krachevsky, Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of Kazakhstan Kanat Torebay.
All speakers emphasized the need to intensify cooperation in the creation of co-production films, as well as work with young people. In particular, Krachevsky stressed the importance of the unique youth competition "Cinema in Five Days" and proposed to include such a competition in the programs of other film festivals
"It builds relationships between filmmakers. It teaches to understand each other's problems, each other's specifics," said Krichevsky.
The Belarusian filmmaker also emphasized that co-production projects are implemented, but the creators often face questions about the legal framework of the countries, where it is different. It's about distribution, copyright. Krachevsky also suggested paying attention to the specific mentality in different countries when preparing scripts and creating films.
Azamat Satybaldy said that it is time to unite and act together for the benefit of cinematography. Realize joint projects, distribute their films in different countries. Satybaldy also thanked the organizers of the film festival and wished everyone good luck and success.
Makhmadsaid Shokhiyon and Sakhysalyk Bayramov also thanked the organizers and wished success to the participants, as well as announced film festivals in their countries, which will be held soon. In Dushanbe in the fall of this year will be held film festival "Toji Somon", and in 2024 in Ashgabat is planned to hold a film festival dedicated to the 300th anniversary of poet and philosopher Makhtumkuli Fraghi.
Firdavs Abdukhalikov emphasized the importance of joint cooperation and called for a focus on the education of young filmmakers.
"We are talking about joining efforts to make cinema better, to make it closer to our viewers, to our nations - this is our main mission. CIS countries cooperate in many spheres: joint ventures, factories and plants are functioning. The sphere of cinematography is not an exception, moreover, there is still too much unrealized reserve. Apart from us, the responsible persons participating in the forum, no one will do it. Our Union of CIS Cinematographers should have its own specific program. We call on our brothers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan to become more actively involved in joint activities. We should remember that over 60% of the population of our countries are young people. And this is our main audience. We should trust young filmmakers more to make movies. We invite young people from CIS countries to come and study with us. We have a presidential decree on film education, which, among other things, mentions the creation of a youth film academy. Negotiations are underway with the Bollywood University, we are working with the French Film Academy, we have agreed to cooperate with our Turkish colleagues, and there are plans to establish permanent contact with the New York Film Academy. We need to organize youth events as part of film festivals in our countries. Especially now they are held everywhere. Let's travel to each other and let at least one third of our delegations represent youth. I am sure that in 10-15 years we will see an explosive surge of cooperation," Firdavs Abdukhalikov said.
As a result of the forum, it was decided to appoint Vladimir Krichevsky as coordinator and executive director of the "International Creative Association of Film Studios of the CIS countries and Georgia. Thus, the executive committee of the organization is located in Minsk, while the headquarters is in Tashkent.
