Soviet government was unable to help the distressed peasants. The village of Lopatino of Buzuluksky district of the Samara province. A peasant family lost a breadwinner, and three young children remained with their mother. To save his weakened mother and brothers from hunger, the eldest boy, Misha Dodonov, decides to go to the Central Asian city of Tashkent (about the abundance of which there are many legends) for groceries, he takes his friend Seryozha with him.
