Director: L. Fayziev
Year of release: 1964.
Genre:historical and biographical film
About the life of the educator, scholar, founder of the observatory – Sultan Muhammad Taragai Ulugh Beg (1394–
1449), the ruler of Samarkand. Ulugh Beg (Shukur Burkhanov) was Timur’s favorite grandson, but he was not like his grandfather, a cruel conqueror. At night he studied the stars, compiled tables of the movement of celestial bodies, and in the morning he put on the turban of the sultan. Ulugh Beg had to fight with reactionary forces in Central Asia at that time, especially with the clergy, who opposed all his progressive initiatives. Khoja Ahrar, the head of the Muslim clergy, offers Ulugh Beg his support if he stops doing science.
But Ulugh Beg does not accept such an offer. He already regrets that frequent military campaigns and internal troubles tear him
away from scientific studies.
